Malcolm Burge

 

                                           

 

 

Malcolm has been on the canal since 1965. In the late 70’s and early 80’s spent all his free time traveling the system on ‘Olympian’ with his family and the Pinnocks who had ‘Elder’

During this period he had time also to set up Captain Cargo Ltd which was a nationwide parcel carrier. The company also operated a fleet of Working Narrowboats. Malcolm’s collection of boats include ANTARTIC the oldest surviving ice boat from 1830 ish, AUSTRALIA the first Iron Composite ‘Josher’ and LINDA the first FMC Diesel powered boat made famous when the Queen Mother opened the Stratford Canal in 1964. The  boats became the South Midland Water Transport fleet when Captain Cargo went public and was subsequently sold. After a few years of Canal Carrying fulltime Malcolm set about constructing Alvecote Marina and developing Narrowcraft

Andrew Davies

 

 

Andrew has been on the canal all his life from the outings on the family boat to building his own boats. He started at Narrowcraft as a part-time job whilst at school and now has over 20 years service. He has been an essential part of all its development over this period. He personally oversees each boat we commission and manages the operation at Alvecote.

 

Andrew Burge

 

Malcolm’s son who has  been boating all his life and is the Company Secretary. He has been Chairman of the Commercial Boat Operators Association since 1998.

 

Lawrence Williams

 

                                    

 

Our engineer Lawrence again has been on the cut for over 10 years. He started turning around hire boats form Bridgewater Boats then went to College to study engineering. Joined Narrowcraft after a spell with South Midland Water Transport.

 

Michael Cull

 

Michael looks after the dry dock and as well as being a ‘coded’ welder and has built many Narrowboats on his own.

 

Leih Machant

 

 

Came visiting the marina with his parents and could not understand the attraction after descending Atherstone Locks. He was duly sent on the Jam ‘Ole run with the work boats and now is our Wharf Operative and Boat Deliverer.
