The People Behind The Name
Malcolm has been on the canal since 1965. In the late 70’s and early 80’s spent all his free time traveling the system on ‘Olympian’ with his family and the Pinnocks who had ‘Elder’
During this period he had time also to set up Captain Cargo Ltd which was a nationwide parcel carrier. The company also operated a fleet of Working Narrowboats. Malcolm’s collection of boats include ANTARTIC the oldest surviving ice boat from 1830 ish, AUSTRALIA the first Iron Composite ‘Josher’ and LINDA the first FMC Diesel powered boat made famous when the Queen Mother opened the Stratford Canal in 1964. The boats became the South Midland Water Transport fleet when Captain Cargo went public and was subsequently sold. After a few years of Canal Carrying fulltime Malcolm set about constructing Alvecote Marina and developing NarrowCraft into a bespoke boat building company.
Andrew has been on the canal all his life, from outings on the family boat to building his own. He started at NarrowCraft fitting out boats as a part-time job whilst at school and now has over 20 years service. He has been an essential part of all NarrowCraft's and Alvecote Marina's development over this period. He personally oversees each boat we commission and manages the after sales operation at Alvecote.
Our chief engineer Lawrence again has been on the cut for over 10 years. He started turning around hire boats form Bridgewater Boats then went to College to study engineering. Joined NarrowCraft after a spell with South Midland Water Transport.
